The car was built in 1996 to compete in the UK Sport spider Cup that supported the TOCA BTCC package. It was run by a team in Wales. After the Series ended, the car was then bought by the person I bought it from and it was in need of some TLC when I got it. The car was raced it for a year in the 750 MC sports car series (there's a couple of other spiders run in that) and then concentrated on the Croft-based Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship. Results have always been top 4 or 5 in Class.
In winter 2003/4 it was stripped to the chassis and checked and fettled from the wheels up by Michael at Tollbar Racing (who used to run Spiders in the Cup). then in winter 2004/5 I put a new engine in to replace the original Clio Williams engine - I put in a Clio 172 engine but had a lot of work done to blueprint it by Nick Hill at Hillpower (pretty much the acknowledged expert when it comes to Renaults).
Additionally the wiring loom has been replaced and put in a DTS ECU and dash with facilities for data-logging, traction control, launch control etc.
