The team set out in the morning well rested and determined to set a good pace and were looking forward to getting in tune with the Renault. As final checks were made to the vehicle before the first day of competition rain pored down on the Silverdome's tin roof. Just to add to the 1st day jitters the fire alarm in the Silverdome decided to go off sending all competitors outside into the rain. After a brief delay proceedings were back underway.
The team clambered into the car as they are now becoming accustomed too, donning their helmets and belting up. Drawing comments from some of the front runners such as Tony Quinn who thought we looked great even before setting out to race. The start number came up and off they went to the Country Club for the official start Targa. After the flag dropped the weather for the Spider seemed to completely clear. This was only the beginning.
We then went into our first stage and on the starting line the issues started. The car off the start line experienced all manner of odd behaviour which puzzled the team, was it wheel spin? was it clutch slipping? or was it just still very wet? This did not slow progress during the first stage but over the next two stages the car became completely un-drivable.
So as to not damage the car the team decided to temporarily to withdraw from the event. Unfortunately the parts required to get the car back on the tarmac are having to come from overseas. They hope to re-enter the Renault Spider later in the event.
To allow the team to continue in the event the service crew have worked tirelessly and the event organisers have accepted the team request to re-enter tomorrow's day of racing in the teams Mazda MX5/Miata. The team have competed in many events in the Mazda previously and it was in Hobart. Unfortunately it is not fully setup for this type of racing at this point so we will see how we go.
