Targa Day 1

Welcome to day one of Targa Tasmania 2008. As we entered the Silverdome where the cars are all stored over night or otherwise known as Park Fermme, there is an electric buzz in the air that you can feel.

Every person that was suited and booted had the most enormous grin you've ever seen. Everyone just wanted to get out there and give their cars a good go on the glorious roads of Tasmania.

As cars headed one by one off to the official Country Club start we waited just as eagerly as all others. Our time soon came and we were on the road for Targa 2008 in the Renault Sport Spider Trophy with the promise of a successful event.

Before we knew it we completing stage after stage after Targa stage. We even completed the dreaded Delorane stage that caused us mechanical failure last year. After a few 'moments' and a few adjustments 'on the fly' inside the cockpit the team were feeling good, comfortable and most of all having a great time.

The Spider is performing extremely well considering that this is not what its purpose ever was intended to be. Wherever it goes it has jaw-dropping appeal to all that gaze at it. Lunch time was just one such instance.

After clambering up and out of the roll cage, as has to be done, TV crews, photographers and the general public set upon the Spider. All people pointing, looking and asking questions about the oddest little car they've ever seen.

Back on the road the afternoon stage all went like clockwork. As the kilometers fell effortlessly behind us we were continued to enjoy the little French cars savoir fare.

Tomorrow is yet another day with its own challenges that the team will take as they come. They are well on the way to getting a Targa Trophy, but things could all change. Targa is an event that rewards teams that work hard all week and have the mental capacity and the machinery to carry out the task at hand.

Day two is just around the corner.
