A late check-in time for the mornings start was given to us as a reward for the hard work that we'd put in the day before so well rested we set off from the Silverdome for Day 3.
Once again we appeared in the local paper with our spectacular looking Renault Sport Spider. This now makes 3 days in a row and we'll see what tomorrow brings for us and if we make in to the paper once more. Due to the unique nature of the vehicle we draw attention from all manner of people. These range from people that think we're in a concept car to those who know more about the Spider than we do and have seen them race in continental Europe.
The car is performing well and going strong this year. Lessons learnt and a more focused preparation this year is seeing the team on a fantastically successful Targa Tasmania campaign. The only issues we've had with the car are superficial in that the body work has a few squeaks and rattles that we've set about fixing.
Tonight included the first time a 'Targafest' has ever taken place. After completing the days competition all vehicles freshly washed were driven into the Launceston town centre and displayed in closed off streets. The turnout was enormous, something akin to New Years Eve in New York with barely room to move as all of the vehicles were surrounded by curious onlookers.
The display of the Renault had people of all ages surrounding it with barley a chance to get a decent photo at times. The magic of this display is that it allowed people to get up close and personal with all of the Targa cars and really be a part of the action.
Thus concludes day three's activities as we prepare for day four. With 3 days of a 5 day event covered you'd think that we are more than half way through, right? Wrong! The next two days the team will be covering more than half of the the 2000kms of the event.
The next two days have stage after stage that are all increasing in length requiring, team strength, concentration and determination. Spare a thought for Adam who has to literally wrestle the un power-steering assisted, un power-braked Spider through stages as long as 50kms.
Imagine a weight training session that didn't stop for 20 minutes, with a trainer (navigator) that kept testing not only your weight training strength, but your concentration, agility and determination!
The team sets off tomorrow at 8am and will not return back to base until around 6pm that night. A total of 10 hours motorsport, non-stop. This only includes a 20 minute break for lunch.
Day four, please bring sunny weather once more.
