After many months of preparation, the 20th anniversary of Targa Tasmania is upon us!

The Redback Racing, Starlight supporter Mazda RX7 will this year join the crew of Targa Racing, bringing our team to four Mazda MX5's, a BMW and the RX7. This large and diverse team will be serviced by three amazing service crews.

So far the weather is looking good with dry weather forecasted for all 5 days. This will suit the powerful rear wheel drive RX7.

As we did last year, the team will be raising much needed funds and awareness in Tasmania for the Starlight Children's Foundation. Starlight's mission is to brighten the lives of all Australia's seriously ill children and their families. Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions to hospitals. Currently Starlight reaches only one in three of these kids. With Starlight Day on the 6th May we are hoping to raise as much money as we can to help Starlight reach every child.

If you are in and around Tasmania on either one of the display nights, please come and purchase some raffle tickets from the team and say hello! Every dollar helps.

If you would like to keep in touch with the team as we compete over the next week please join our facebook group or for the most up to date news, the team will be on twitter keeping you posted.

The team at Redback Racing would like to say a big thanks to Genesys, Nuance, Dimension Data, RightNow, Extreme Clutches and Motul Oils, our sponsors whom without we could not make it here. Coupled with the team at Tweakit who have prepared the car for this event we hope to race well and come home with a victory.

Also to all our partners, family and friends who have, in some way contributed to getting us to the starting line, quite a feat when you know the logistical nightmare that is getting six cars prepared for this event, a huge thank you.

A special mention to Matt and Mary Dolan who have driven from Qld to be the Starlight Supporter Car service crew.

Targa Tasmania Overview;

Targa Tasmania is more than a motor sport competition. It is a total even, a major International Classic and unlike most rallies, it runs directly in front of the public – in the public eye and under public scrutiny.

Targa Tasmania is a tarmac rally with competitive stages on closed roads for the best touring, sports and GT cars in the world. This inaugural International motoring Classic took place in April 1992 and has quickly established itself as an annual event conducted in April of every year.

The competition concept is drawn directly from the best features of the Mille Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Corse. Targa Tasmania is unique annual opportunity for the owners of sports cars and GTs to drive them the way they were designed to be driven, on some of the most exciting and challenging tarmac roads in the world.
